Effect of dietary supplementation of antimicrobial peptides -Ampter® on the immunoglobulin of colostrum and umbilical blood in sows

  Material and Methods  

Twenty antepartum sows were randomly allocated to 2 groups with 10 sows per groups. one was the antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) group and the other was the control group. The sows in the control group were fed a corn-soybean basal diet, and sows in the AMPs group were fed the basal diet supplemented with 500 g Sunsmile’s AMPs (Ampter®) per ton for a month. All the samples of colostrum were collected after the delivery in 0, 6 and 12 hr. and the sample of umbilical blood were also collected during the delivery. The content of IgG, IgM and IgA in colostrum and umbilical blood were detected by the ELISA.

  Results  

AMPs can remarkably increase (P<0.05) the content of IgG compared with the control group whenever in 0, 6 or 12 hr after the delivery (Fig. 1). Although there was on difference on the content of IgA between the groups, AMPs could increase with the content of IgM compared with the control group in the 6 and 12 hr after the delivery. AMPs greatly increased (P<0.05) the content of IgG in the umbilical blood of piglets compared with the control group but no difference on the IgA and IgM.

  Conclusion  

Difference dietary supplementation of Ampter could increase the content of immunoglobulin of colostrum and umbilical blood in sows.
